IP Audits and Strategic IP Counseling

Ergenzinger Intellectual Property Law offers IP audit services in which clients’ IP assets are systematically reviewed to uncover under-utilized and unprotected IP assets.  These IP audits help business managers devise informed strategies that will maintain and improve the company’s market position.  Dr. Ergenzinger has substantial experience helping clients manage their IP by working with them to develop and implement strategic plans that correspond to their business goals.

Patents

The firm’s patent services include the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the United States and abroad, portfolio management, due diligence analysis, and the preparation of opinions relating to patentability, validity, non-infringement, and freedom-to-operate.  Dr. Ergenzinger has extensive expertise working with academic, start-up, national, and international clients to identify and protect inventions as technology moves from research and development to commercialization. 

Trademarks

The firm’s trademark services include counseling regarding the selection, availability and use of trademarks, preparation and prosecution of trademark applications, and access to an international network of practitioners to facilitate international registration of marks.  Trademark law is one of the subjects that Dr. Ergenzinger has taught as an adjunct professor of law and he brings that level of knowledge to the representation of his clients regarding trademark issues.

Copyrights

Ergenzinger Intellectual Property Law offers copyright services that include the procurement of copyright registrations and client counseling regarding the appropriate use and protection of copyrighted materials under domestic and international copyright laws.  Through his service as a member of the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, Dr. Ergenzinger has counseled non-profit organizations and artists on copyright issues relating to music, art, and choreography.  As a law clerk within the Wake Forest University Counsel’s Office, he also gained experience working on digital copyright issues facing universities, including those related to distance learning and to file sharing.

Trade Secrets

Ergenzinger Intellectual Property Law offers services to law firms outside of the United States that need assistance with procuring IP protection in the United States for their clients.  In particular, the firm provides extensive expertise entering the national phase in the United States off of PCT applications and can perform these services at a fraction of the cost of large law firms.
